The community of Zebulon, North Carolina, is gathering to honor the life of David Spencer Hicks, who passed away at the age of 63. Known for his generous heart and vibrant spirit, David leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Born in Spring Hope, David grew up with a strong sense of community and deep roots in North Carolina.
He attended Southern Nash High School and continued his education in business at Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College). David’s professional journey began at Wachovia Bank and took him through Regional Acceptance before he founded North State Acceptance. His unwavering ambition and sharp business sense allowed him to create a successful company, which he eventually sold for an early retirement.
Not one to sit idle, David’s entrepreneurial drive led him to co-establish Oak Tree Finance with his son, Zack, showcasing his lifelong commitment to fostering growth and opportunity. Beyond his professional achievements, David was a devoted family man. He shared 36 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Jill Strickland Hicks, and was a proud father to his three sons, Zachary (Lindsay), Austin (Margaret Wood), and Spencer.
Known for hosting gatherings that brought friends and family together, his home was a sanctuary of warmth and joy. “David had an incredible ability to make everyone feel welcome. He was the life of every gathering and always brought everyone together,” said a family friend. David’s funeral service is scheduled for February 5th, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Zebulon Baptist Church, providing an opportunity for the community to come together to share stories, celebrate his life, and find comfort in one another.
Following the service, a graveside ceremony will take place at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. In a world where kindness and laughter can sometimes feel scarce, David Spencer Hicks’ spirit will continue to inspire those he touched, reminding us all of the power of generosity and human connection. His legacy of love and support will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of many.
